The Cochrane Lions Club is helping ease financial barriers to childcare for local families with a $5,000 donation to BGC Cochrane and Area.

The service club's contribution will support families who may not otherwise be able to access BGC programs.

“We’ve been working with BGC for years,” said Lions Club president Chris Connon. “This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. There’s a lot of great programming at BGC, and some families just aren’t able to make it work. With this donation, we’re creating a fund that helps ensure everyone can be included.”

Maureen Topp, manager of licensed programs at BGC, said the donation will make a meaningful impact.

“This donation helps us ensure that children who need access to care can stay in care,” she said. “As we’ve grown over the years, we’ve definitely noticed financial barriers affecting families in the Cochrane community. It’s important to ensure that all children can access child care and that those barriers are eliminated.”

Topp oversees BGC’s out-of-school care and family day home programs, which serve more than 600 children.
