Battlefords RCMP handed out charges to a pair of individuals from North Battleford after an all-day investigation on Tuesday.

Officers immediately responded to a residence on Moosomin First Nation following a reported assault, where it was determined that the individuals in question used a firearm and bear-spray to forcibly rob the victim before escaping shortly after in a truck. 

As the victim was tended to by EMS patrols began to locate the suspects. Battlefords RCMP were assisted by RCMP Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Teams (SERT) Battlefords Crime Reduction Team-Gang Task Force (CRT-GTF) according to the police release and worked together to locate the truck inside Saulteaux First Nation.

Upon their discovery the suspects immediately fled into a residence, and with the help of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, shortly after both an adult male and female were taken into custody, the female being released without charges. Remaining on the scene for another four hours or so, police were able to observe a second adult female exiting the residence just after 1:00 AM. While outside the residence officers noticed a semi-auto firearm and ammunition in a vehicle that was later seized.

Continued investigation resulted in four charges each for the following individuals:

28-year-old Richard Wright of Battleford, SK is charged with:

  • one count, robbery with firearm, Section 344, Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization; Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

23-year-old Jenna Haraburda of North Battleford, SK is charged with:

  • one count, robbery,, Section 344, Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, fail to comply with probation, Section 733.1(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code.

Wright and Haraburda made their first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Thursday.
