Last week, Mountain View County (MVC) presented its 2025 Citizenship Awards.
According to MVC, the awards were presented to one Grade 12 student from each High School located within the county in recognition of contributions made to their community.
This year’s recipients include:
- Brooke Anderson (Cremona)
- Hailey Israelson (Didsbury)
- Jayna Kirke (Carstairs)
- Julie Dunn (Olds)
- Sam Botheras (Sundre)
- Courtney Sewell (Olds Koinonia)
Josie McGillicky, community outreach coordinator for the county, talked about why it is important to recognize the youth.
"Involvement in the local communities is a big part of it, and seeing future involvement and leadership within the communities, and then giving back to our community as well."
Applicants are judged on various criteria, including leadership qualities, volunteer work, and maintaining a good academic standing.
According to McGillicky, award recipients receive $1,000, which is meant as a scholarship for future schooling aspirations.
She concluded by saying the Citizenship Awards are handed out yearly.
