Cochrane basketball players combined the sport they love with a cause close to their hearts.
A charity basketball game held Saturday night raised $600 to help three-year-old Brielle walk again with the aid of robotic legs.

The fundraiser is part of a community-wide effort to reach a $43,000 goal by June 14.

The event was added to a night typically reserved for regular play in the Alex Tumang Realty Basketball Cup league and was hosted by the Fil-Can Hoops and Beyond Society. Players 40+ from both Cochrane and Canmore took to the court for a friendly, yet competitive game.

In advance, many made donations to the cause.
Michelle Aguilar and her daughter Brielle attended the game. They’ve been doing their best to keep up with the many fundraisers being organized on their behalf.

“It’s been overwhelming. I don’t even know how to express how grateful we are to everyone,” said Aguilar. “I would hear something on the radio about a fundraiser happening, and I would just instantly cry.
“To feel and see that everyone cares for us—especially my daughter—is just heartwarming.”
A wrap-up for the community-wide campaign is planned for June 14 at Cochrane Toyota, organized by Dan Kroffat. The community is invited to bring in the funds they've raised, enjoy a free barbecue, and participate in a silent auction. A free door prize draw will also be held.
