The U15AA Whitecap Resources Gold Wings female hockey team celebrated a successful season at the Hockey Weyburn awards night on Monday, recognizing the outstanding efforts of their players.

This season, the Gold Wings set new team records with a notable winning streak and playoff success, said Assistant Coach Shawn Madsen. He described the year as a “really good stepping stone” for the program’s future. Though the team narrowly missed advancing further in the playoffs, losing by just one goal in the final round, the effort was commendable.

Four team awards were presented:

  • Chelsea Madsen – Most Valuable Player (MVP)

  • Haven Bourassa – Most Dedicated

  • Baya Summers – Most Sportsmanlike

  • Jozee Weichel – Most Improved

Looking ahead, Madsen, Bourassa, and Weichel are moving up to U18 AAA hockey next season. Madsen and Bourassa will play in Weyburn, while Weichel will join the Notre Dame team in Wilcox.

Madsen shared the pride coaches feel seeing players develop and progress. “This is what you do it for. It’s exciting for them to have the chance to move to the next level.”

Reflecting on the season, Masden highlighted an eight-game winning streak that boosted team confidence and performance. “When you start to expect winning, it really drives the team’s hunger."

As the team prepares for next season, Masden expressed optimism about new players stepping up and filling the spots of those moving on. “It’ll be a great opportunity for the first- and second-year players."

The U15AA Whitecap Resources Gold Wings look forward to building on this successful season and continuing to develop strong players for the future.
