The book closed on a memorable season for the Medicine Hat Tigers on Sunday.

The Western Hockey League champions were eliminated from the Memorial Cup, falling 4–1 to the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights.

Cochrane products Kadon McCann and Ethan Neutens were part of the Tigers' roster during their impressive run. McCann didn’t dress for the final two games. Neutens scored a timely goal—his first since the opening game of the WHL final—and assisted on another in their round-robin game against the Knights.

It was the Knights’ third Memorial Cup win in their 60-year history.

Regarded as one of the most difficult trophies to win in hockey, the Memorial Cup pits the WHL champion against the winners of the OHL, the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, and the tournament’s host club in a round-robin format.

The WHL and OHL have each won the title 19 times since the adoption of the three-league tournament format in 1972.

The Tigers last appeared in the Memorial Cup in 2007, losing to the host Vancouver Giants. They won back-to-back Memorial Cups in 1987 and 1988, and have claimed six WHL championships in their 52-year history.
