Estevan Police Service members responded to 53 calls for service over the weekend. These included four motor vehicle collisions, all of which were non-injury, and six disturbance calls that were resolved without criminal charges. Officers also investigated two reports of assault, both of which remain under investigation, and issued eight traffic tickets for various offences.
Among the calls were several specific incidents that occurred on Saturday and Sunday.
Police responded to a report of a fight at a local bar. The individuals involved were spoken to and sent home after being warned about their behaviour.
A 31-year-old Gainsborough man was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine. He was held in custody and later released on an undertaking before a justice of the peace. He is scheduled to appear in Estevan provincial court at a later date.
In a separate incident, a 68-year-old Estevan man was charged with mischief following a complaint at a local laundromat. He was released on conditions not to return to the location.
Officers also assisted a family dealing with their adult daughter’s mental health and addictions issues.
That night, police were called to a local residence for a report of an assault. A female victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
Police also responded to an alarm at a financial institution. It was determined to be a false alarm, and employees at the business were spoken to.
On Sunday, officers responded to a complaint about several youth climbing on an abandoned building in the central part of the city. The youth were located, cautioned about trespassing, and sent on their way.
Later, police were dispatched to a business after an alarm monitoring company reported motion at the front doors. Officers discovered the doors had been left unsecured after closing, and a customer had inadvertently triggered the alarm. Nothing was taken and there was no sign of criminal activity.
During the night shift, police also received a report of a theft from a local gas station. Surveillance footage was obtained and is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
