A Ponoka building will take on the role of a chameleon this month — but with the goal of standing out.
Throughout June, the exterior of the Ponoka Civic Centre will be lit up with coloured lights from sunset to sunrise to recognize several events and awareness campaigns, as outlined below.
🟢 June 2 to 8: Green
Recreation and Parks Month / BGC Club Day
Green lights will be projected onto the building this week to mark Recreation and Parks Month and BGC Club Day on June 6.
Recreation and Parks Month is a provincewide initiative that promotes outdoor play, the use of local parks, and community connections through recreation.
The first event of the month will be a spring festival on June 13.
BGC Club Day recognizes and celebrates Boys and Girls Club (BGC) Wolf Creek in Ponoka, which has provided safe, supportive spaces in Ponoka and surrounding communities since 2001.
More information about BGC Club Day is available on its website.
🏳️🌈 June 9 to 15: Pride colours
Pride Month
As part of its commitment to being a welcoming, inclusive and caring community, the Town of Ponoka will recognize and celebrate Pride Month by projecting the pride colours onto the Civic Centre.

🟠 June 16 to 22: Orange
National Indigenous History Month / National Indigenous Peoples Day
In the spirit of reconciliation, and in recognition of National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, the colour orange will be reflected onto the outside of the Civic Centre this week.
These events celebrate the traditions, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. For more information, visit the Government of Canada website.
🔴 June 23 to July 1: Red
Canada Day
To mark Canada Day on July 1, the Civic Centre will be lit up in red throughout the final week of June.
“These special dates and occasions pay tribute to Ponoka’s rich history of respecting differences and diversity within our great community,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson.
