Four Gull Lake firefighters are driving right into the heart of the wildfires.
Stacy Schmidt, Kara Dyer, Kyle Rozel, and Tim Temoshawsky of the Gull Lake Fire & Rescue have volunteered to join the team combating the fires at Pelican Narrows.
"Definitely the dedication to being a volunteer," said Gull Lake Fire Chief Bentley Gibson. "They had to contact their employers to get the time, and one is self-employed. They were more than willing. It happened very quickly."
Gull Lake Fire & Rescue sent their wildland unit with the four members this morning.
"We got a phone call on Sunday asking for some help," Gibson said. "It's a smaller unit that can get around quite easily. It's more versatile for what they're asking for in wildland, bush, and it's capable of doing some structural fire too."
The province will reimburse the members and the fire department for the time and use of the equipment.
The Pelican Narrows area is east of La Ronge.
Gibson noted they have 16 firefighters and two auxiliary, so they will still have a strong team in the area. They also have three additional units.
The province has declared a state of emergency with 21 active wildfires in Saskatchewan.
