It was a significantly warmer May than on average for Swift Current.
Last month, the city experienced an average temperature of 13.2°C, well above the 140-year May normal of 10.7 °C.
Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the majority of Saskatchewan saw temperatures 2-4 °C above normal in May.
"You did get a bit of yo-yoing going on, some very warm conditions for the first 13 days of the month, then a good stretch of well below seasonal before warming up before the end of the month," she said. "Averaging all of that out, you did end up on the warmer side... Putting it your 17th warmest (out of 140 years of data)."
The consistent light rain showers in Swift Current over the May long weekend resulted in 22.3 millimetres of the month's 32.2 millimetres of precipitation. On average, the city collects 45.3 millimetres of precipitation in May, making last month the 64th driest on record.
"Kind of a difficult month in terms of precipitation for most of Saskatchewan, including Swift Current," she said. "The exceptions for that drier than normal trend were in the southeast corner of the province and then part of the extreme northwest-central Saskatchewan."
