The Estevan Viragos took the field this past weekend for their first game of the 2025 season, facing off against the Yorkton Lady Gridders in a pre-season match-up. Despite the loss, the team showed strong effort on both offence and defence, with several standout moments to build on.

One of the highlights was Tanaya Potomac, who played in her very first football game. Drawn to the team after hearing good things, Tanaya said she’s enjoying the experience, especially the friendships she’s made. Though she also competes in barrel racing, football has offered a fresh and exciting challenge. Having trained through the spring, she plans to keep going into the fall and encourages others to give football a try.

Head coach Matthew McGillivray was encouraged by the team’s debut. With six of their 11 starters new to football, he said there are plenty of positives to build on as the Viragos prepare for the season ahead.
