On Sunday, June 1 at approximately 5:23 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence in Samson Cree Nation.

Emergency responders arrived to find a dead 20-year-old male. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where his death was determined to be a homicide.

The deceased has been identified as Travis Jason Crier, who also went by the name Raven Crier.

“This is another tragic and senseless loss of a Four Nations community member,” said Inspector Richard McKay, detachment commander of Maskwacis RCMP.

“There is a direct relationship between this death and illegal firearms in Maskwacis. The community is saying it, we are saying it, and our leaders are saying it: enough is enough.”

“During our meetings with the Chiefs and Councils of all Four Nations of Maskwacis, illegal guns and gun violence are a serious concern and one they want combatted. It’s important that residents know they will have our full cooperation and support. If you know of the existence of illegal guns, there are ways to reach out to us safely—call us.”

Anyone with information about this crime or those responsible is asked to contact Maskwacis RCMP at 780-585-3767. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
