The Estevan Community Wellness Committee is showing off their new website, which they hope will help keep people informed about helpful parts of the community. The committee was first formed back in 2023, and since then, has grown to prioritize four areas for the community: mental wellness, substance abuse and addictions, education and employment, and victimization.
Rebecca Foord, a member of the committee, talks about what they hope to accomplish with their new website.
"I think it's just to create a kind of one-stop shop for people to find resources in this community. We always have a lot of events happening and a lot of activities happening in this community that might be able to help and support people in their mental health journey and any kind of healing journey that they're taking or whatever they might need."
Foord says the website was put in place with the feedback they've gained from the community over the years, hoping to build connections in the community.
That'll be done through a number of events that will try to cover every aspect of Estevan life.
"It will have our events that we're hosting, so our board game nights and any you know fundraiser or dinner we plan on having, and then it will also be used to post what the grief group is doing or whatever group might be hosting an activity."
Foord says building the website was possible thanks to a mental health dinner they held back in January, along with communication with the community.
She invites people to their monthly board game night, every third Tuesday of the month, which is open to all comers.
"This is an event for absolutely everybody. If you want to bring your kids, if you want to bring absolutely whoever you want, this is just a time to build connections and network."
"I just keep seeing all over Facebook that there's people posting on the Estevan community pages of 'Hey, I'm new to the community, how do I meet people?' and we just keep encouraging people to come to our board game nights because it's just a simple relaxed way to meet people. You don't have a commitment to spend any money, it's just come and have some fun and meet some people, and we can see where we can connect you in the community."
