Former Swift Current Bronco Stuart Skinner made 29 saves to help his Edmonton Oilers start the Stanley Cup Final strong.
Leon Draisaitl struck for his second of the game in overtime, as the Oilers came back from down 3-1 to beat the Florida Panthers 4-3.
Edmonton takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven NHL championship series.
"I think the way that we showed up from the get-go," Skinner said. "The way that we continued to keep on going even though we were down by two, that shows a lot of character by us."
Florida scored twice on 5 first period shots to take a 2-1 lead.
Skinner wasn't rattled.
"I felt comfortable right from the get-go to be honest," he said. "I know a quick two goals for them... but I felt good. I was comfortable."
The teams traded second period goals before Mattias Eklhom sent the game to overtime in the third.
Connor McDavid set Draisaitl up for the winner on a power play late in the first overtime period.
The Oilers are making their second consecutive trip to the Stanley Cup final. Florida beat Edmonton in seven games last June.
Skinner was a little less awe struck this time around.
"It felt completely different," he said. "When I saw the (Stanley Cup) on the ice last year, I was kind of looking at it with googly eyes. This year seeing it I was here last year, I saw it already, so now it's time to get back to work and do my thing. Felt completely different."
Game 2 is Friday night in Edmonton.
