The Estevan Market Mall has found a solution to a 23,000 square foot problem as a new tenant has been found for their former Peavy Mart space. At the start of the year, it was announced that all Peavy Mart locations would be closing down, with the company citing several factors, including record-low consumer confidence, increased operating costs and continued disruptions to the supply chain.

Since then, the Estevan Market Mall has been looking for a new option for the area, and that was announced late in May on a Facebook post from a Regina-based company.

Having a new vendor pick up the space in less than half a year is great for the mall, and Martin Blair, the managing director for First Aberdeen Properties Ltd., says it was very convenient that someone was in the market for a space like that.

"The arrival of our new Tenant was primarily based on 'timing and convenience'; the tenant has been looking for the right combination of space size, shape, retail exposure, and an outside storage yard; and the area occupied by Peavey Mart satisfied all of these needs."

Blair says that from the viewpoint of the mall, the new tenant will be a good fit for the mall.

"The tenant's offering provides an interesting mix of attraction, with the benefit of requiring no changes to the physical space/facility. We're excited to see how this local, Saskatchewan-grown, initiative will be received by the visitors to the Mall."

The new business is set to open on June 11th.
