Scammers using Prime Minister Mark Carney's appearance to promote fake stories centred around a securities company are in the spotlight for the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan. FCAA reports that Canfirst, a company claiming to present trading opportunities, such as stocks and cryptocurrency. Canfirst is not registered in Saskatchewan to sell securities or derivatives.
FCAA Securities Division Executive Director Dean Murrison reminds people not to fall for stories that purport to be from notable media figures.
"Do not make investment decisions solely due to notable figure endorsement. Scammers can create fraudulent news articles that imitate the real media source. Before you consider investing with an entity, always check the registration status at aretheyregistered.ca and do not deal with any unregistered entities."
If you do end up investing with Canfirst or another company claiming to be acting on their behalf, the FCAA asks that you contact their Securities division at 306-787-5936.
