March 30, 1943 – April 24, 2025 Farmer. Inventor. Fixer of Everything. Proud Husband and Dad. Age 82. Marcel Avila Chabot was born on a cold Tuesday, March 30, 1943, in Ponteix, Saskatchewan—likely with a wrench in one hand and an idea in the other. The third born, the first son to Antonio and Therese Chabot.

He left us on April 24, 2025, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, at the age of 82, surrounded by the legacy of a life well built, well lived, and well loved. He was a proud husband to his beloved Gladys, whose love and partnership was the foundation of everything he built. Together, they raised two children: Ronald (Elena) and Stephenie (Dave), who learned early that love from Marcel often came disguised as high standards, blunt advice and the quiet but powerful message: “I knew you could.”

A man of many trades and very few unnecessary words, Marcel wore the titles of son, brother, cousin, husband, Dad, uncle, farmer, friend, businessman, fisherman, pilot, mechanic, auto body wizard, volunteer, advocate inventor and fixer of all things stubborn.

He was a deeply devoted grandfather to four grandkids, whom he supported not just with love, but with real-life lessons, genuine hugs, fun jokes and smiles, sound advice, storytelling, mentorship, help with education costs and the occasional tough-love pep talk.

Left to mourn this loss are Cole (Brianna, Easton and Rhett), Madisson (Avery), Mya Robinson and Kaley Chabot. Each one carries a piece of his legacy. Marcel also leaves behind his siblings Edith Chabot-Hayworth (Bill), Tony Pawchuck (Bernie), and Camille Hannah (David), sister-in-law Pat (Leo) Chabot and brother in-law-Bob (Lorna) Beler, along with a large and loving extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends who will lovingly remember him in oil-stained overalls, dirty hands, probably mid-project. He was predeceased by both of his parents Tony and Therese, his in-laws, Val and Annie Schafer, his loving wife Gladys, brother-in-law’s Leo, David and Bernie, his sister-in-law, Lillian Beler, his nephew Perry Dueck and nephew Kevin Beler.

A funeral and celebration of Marcel’s life will be held on July 12, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. A private interment will follow at a later date at the Mankota Cemetery, where Marcel will finally rest. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a private donation be made to the Prairie View Health Centre – P.O. Box 390, Mankota, SK, S0H 2W0
