The Weyburn Beavers dropped both games of a weekend road series against the Medicine Hat Mavericks, who continue to dominate the WCBL’s West Division. With a 6-5 extra-inning loss on Saturday and an 11-5 defeat on Sunday, the Beavers fell to 2-7 on the season, while the Mavericks improved their league-best record to 9-2.

Saturday’s game saw the Beavers push the Mavericks to the limit, but a 10th-inning run sealed a 6-5 walk-off win for Medicine Hat.

Weyburn’s offensive spark came from third baseman Trevor Dale, who hit two home runs and drove in all five of the Beavers’ runs. Dale finished the night 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, continuing his strong start to the season.

Starter Dylan Parton went six solid innings for Weyburn, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits. Reliever Logan Kinter took the loss, allowing the winning run in the 10th despite not giving up a hit.

For Medicine Hat, Jeremy Freeman Jr. continued his hot streak at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Micah Dvorak added a solo home run in the seventh to help erase a Weyburn lead.

The Beavers briefly went ahead 5-3 in the top of the eighth, but the Mavericks responded with two runs in the bottom half to tie it, and then walked it off in the 10th inning.

Sunday’s rematch saw Medicine Hat flex their offensive depth, using a six-run eighth inning to break open a 5-5 game and secure an 11-5 victory.

Once again, Dale had a standout performance for the Beavers, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Brayden Mayencourt and Ryan Dauphinee each chipped in with two RBI, while Alex Alva added another.

However, the Beavers couldn’t contain a surging Mavericks lineup. Medicine Hat racked up 14 hits, with Yusei Uzawa, Tyler Vanneste, and Carter Roth leading the charge.

Weyburn starter Gram Middleton allowed four runs over five innings, and the bullpen was unable to hold the line. Reliever Isaiah Granado took the loss, and Medicine Hat piled on against the rest of the staff with eight hits and seven runs over the final two frames.

After a tough weekend, the Beavers return home to Tom Laing Park on Tuesday night, where they’ll look to snap their skid against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
