École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School is celebrating the success of its recent Relay for Life event, held May 30 at MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe.

With 270 participants taking part, the school community raised an impressive $10,737 in support of cancer research.

In a social media post, the school praised the efforts of its students:

“Huge congratulations to our incredible Relay for Life student leadership team for organizing an unforgettable event and raising an amazing $10,737 for cancer research!
Your passion, dedication and heart remind us that our students aren't just the leaders of tomorrow — they're leaders today. Thank you for inspiring us all,” the post said.

Since it began in 1999, Relay for Life has brought Canadians together to take action against cancer.

The event is more than a fundraiser it’s a meaningful gathering of support, remembrance and hope.

Participants take turns walking around a track or path, symbolizing the perseverance needed to fight cancer.

The first lap, known as the Lap of Hope, honours those currently battling the disease.

As the sun sets, luminaries are lit around the track in memory of those who have died from cancer.
