With the scorching heat and the long sunny days ahead, hockey may not be the first thing on many people's minds, but before you know it, the rink will soon be busy with hockey activity.

The Humboldt Broncos are offering an opportunity for local minor hockey players to shake off the summer rust with the Summer Hockey School from August 25-28.

A new feature for this year will be the Girls Only Camp.

Broncos Associate Coach Carter Hansen says the camp will include instruction both on and off the ice.

You get your seven hours of on ice. You get to work with me. We got. We got Chelsea (Wytrykusz) there,” said Hansen. “You get to work with and then also between your two sessions per day, we're going to be doing a lot of we're going to be doing some off ice training, little dry land training there. You're going to have either myself again or Brayden Kilmosko (Broncos Head Coach).”

The Summer Camp will be a perfect opportunity for players to get on the ice and prepare themselves for the hockey season, according to the Broncos Associate Coach.

“It's honestly just a good chance for these kids to get on the ice before they have their tryout skates or their tier skates,” Hansen explained, “there's going to be a lot of power skating involved in this, especially the Chelsea section of it. She's probably one of the better power skating instructors I've seen. And so, she's going to be running a lot of that.”

Adding a Girls Camp is something that Hansen is excited about and noted that it was something the team began exploring over the last couple of years.

“From our standpoint with the Broncos, we wanted to make sure something like this does happen because it really does. It really just should be out there, just to put a little bit more of a spotlight on the women's game and just having something that's more directed specifically towards that I think is so important.”

Hansen noted there has been a lot of interest in the Girls Only Camp, and spots are quickly filling up.

Joining Wytrykusz as an instructor for the Girls Camp will be Alida Korte, the sister of Broncos forward Jeter Korte. Alida was a member of the Team Canada’s squad at the U18 Women’s World Hockey Championships in Czechia. For the last two seasons, she has played with the Rink HA Kelowna U18 Prep.

Limited spots are available for each group. To register, you can click here.

If you register before June 10th, you’ll be eligible to win a game worn Humboldt Broncos jersey.

An email will be sent out in July with the confirmed times for each group.
