A flag raising ceremony was held at City Hall in Humboldt on Monday afternoon to officially kick off Humboldt Pride Week.
The festivities began on Sunday with the crosswalk painting.

Taylor Moisan, a board member of the Humboldt and Area Pride Network, appreciates the growing amount of support.
“It means a lot. I grew up here and it was not a welcoming community. When I was a kid, so to be able to have these kinds of events,” Moisan said. “I can't even express how much that actually means to me to just have these people supporting us and saying, yeah, like you're here, you're cool. We want you here like we are a community. It's something I never got as a kid, so I really appreciate it.”
Moisan also recognized the Horizon School Division for having a flag outside of their facility.
There were several organizations on hand to show support of Pride Week on Monday, including the City of Humboldt, Partners Family Service, Horizon School Division, Prairie Gateway Settlement Services (formerly known as the Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre), the Westminster United Church and the Saskatchewan NDP.
Moisan was pleased to so many groups on hand for the flag raising ceremony especially with the strong representation from the City of Humboldt with three councillors present (Marilyn Scott, Karen Siermachesky and Sarah McInnis) along with Regina Rochdale MLA Joan Pratchler who reaffirmed the Sask NDP’s commitment to repeal the Parents Bills of Rights.
Other events that will take place this week during Humboldt Pride Week are the Pride Bowling night at Kemway Lanes on Thursday, which begins at 7:00. The event is free and everyone is welcome. Moisan noted she last year’s event was an absolute blast. “I laughed so hard I was so sore after.”
On Sunday at Westminster United Church there will be a diversity service at 10:00am and then at 11:00am there will be a picnic potluck outside.
Moisan is looking forward to this week being filled with celebration.
“Just all the smiles and the waving as we're out and it's awesome. Like I love it. So, thank you to everybody who supports us.”
