One of the premier golf events hosting the greatest golfers in Saskatchewan will take place in Weyburn this upcoming weekend, The Crocus Men's Open. Last year, nearly 70 golfers converged at the Weyburn Golf Club for the provincially sanctioned event in co-ordination with the Order of Merit tournament. Krystle Fedoretz, general manager at the Weyburn Golf Club, comments on one of the golf club’s biggest tournaments of the year.
“We are hosting the Crocus Men's Open. It is a sanctioned tournament by Golf Saskatchewan. That will be held on June 14th and 15th. It starts at 10 AM on Saturday and the next flighted round is at 9:00 AM on Sunday. The Crocus (Open) is a men’s event. It is a competitive event where players can play for points in the Order of Merit, which is a province-wide event.”
Alongside the fun on the golf course, the Weyburn Golf Club will be hosting a rib supper on Saturday evening. Also, they host what is called a ‘horse race’ which pits the best players in a head-to-head competition. On day two of the event, things will get started with a buffet breakfast before the final round of action takes place.
With this tournament being a flighted event, golfers will play the first day and then are separated and will compete against each other based on their skill level, instead of the entire field. This flighting system allows for fair and good competition between all golfers and helps ensure there is no mismatches in competition levels.
Registration is $100 for members of the Weyburn Golf Club and $170 for non-members. Fedoretz explains the best way to get a hold of them to register and partake in the fun this upcoming weekend.
“The best way is through the link on our Facebook page. They can check out our website as well and they can always call the clubhouse (at 306-842-5881), and we can register them.”
