A major milestone is being celebrated today at Cochrane Home Treasures.
From 2020 to mid-2025, the Treasures for Your Home Society has donated $1 million to worthy causes through its community funding, gifting, and building programs.
“We’re really proud,” said Home Treasures’ Dawn Thome. “I think the thing we’re most proud of is the community, because everything in the store that we sell is donated. So, without the community donations and without the community coming in to purchase goods, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
That $1 million is because of the community support we receive.”
To mark the occasion, the non-profit second-hand store at #2, 208–5th Ave. is offering free coffee and donuts, scratch-to-win prizes on purchases over $25, double stamps on purchases up to $100, and a chance to win one of 12 family movie passes to the Cochrane Movie House. The celebration continues until 5 p.m. today.
The store typically sees a steady stream of customers, but the crowds have been even larger today.
“We’re really thrilled that so many people are coming in to help us celebrate,” said Thome. “It’s just super.”

The quality and value of the donations have been exceptional, allowing the store to resell items at reasonable prices while serving the greater good.
“We’ve had some amazing donations," she said, pointing to the example of a recent donation of antique furniture. "We’ve been able to refurbish and resell. It’s just fabulous that people give us such incredible items. We take everything from a silver spoon to an antique oak roll-top desk, and everything in between. We’re just so thankful for the community support.”

Treasures for Your Home Society was founded after a need was identified for a used furniture and household goods store in Cochrane. Its first store opened in November 2002.
