Wetaskiwin RCMP have arrested two individuals following a vehicle stop in which drugs were found.

On Tuesday, officers with the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit were conducting patrols when they observed a known offender driving a Hyundai Venue. Checks revealed the driver did not have a valid driver’s licence.

Police conducted a traffic stop and, during their interaction with the vehicle’s occupants, determined there were drugs in the car. Both individuals were arrested. A search incidental to arrest uncovered:

  • Approximately 27 grams of fentanyl,

  • Approximately 53 grams of methamphetamine and

  • Other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Travis Bull, 22, of Maskwacis, Alta., has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking and

  • Possession of proceeds of crime.

Bull was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for tommorow at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

The second occupant of the vehicle is facing two pending charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking. That individual was released and cannot be named until the charges are sworn.

“Fentanyl and other drugs cause significant harm to our community,” said Cpl. John Learn of the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “By proactively focusing our enforcement efforts on these known offenders, we can have the largest impact.”

Police are asking anyone with information about illegal drug activity in the area to contact the Wetaskiwin RCMP detachment at 780-312-7267.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
