Former Swift Current Broncos defenceman Eric Johnston is headed to the University of Saskatchewan.
"It was a no-brainer when [the Huskies] reached out to me," said Johnston in a U of S media release. "You look at how deep [into the playoffs] they've gone the past few years, how deep the team is, and it's close to home so I think it's all you can get. They also have a tight team so joining a group with good chemistry is huge too, I'm looking forward to it."
Johnston played 239 games in the WHL and once served as the captain of the Prince Albert Raiders.
"We're really excited to add Eric to our group," said Huskies Head Coach and Swift Current native Brandin Cote. "He's a smart, poised defenceman who brings a ton of experience from his time in the WHL, where he served as a captain. He's going to be a reliable and steady presence on our blueline."
Johnston played with the Edmonton Oil Kings, Raiders, Broncos, and Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL.
He played 37 games and recorded 13 points for the Broncos in 2024-25 before getting moved to the Warriors ahead of the WHL Trade Deadline.
