Six southwest products had their name called at yesterday's Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft.
The draft includes players born in 2009 and 2010.
The Kindersley Klippers nabbed Maple Creek product Finn Gustafson in the 2nd round of the 2010 draft.
He has 33 points in 27 games for the Swift Current U15 AA Broncos in 2024-25 and is committed to the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires in U18 AAA next season.
In the 2009 draft, La Ronge took Gull Lake's Jamie Kirwan in the 2nd round with the 17th pick overall.
Kirwan put up 30 points in 36 games with the Prairie Hockey Academy in the CSSHL U17 Prep league last season. He had 33 points in 26 games with Swift Current in U15 AA the previous season.
Melville drafted Swift Current's Kadyn Olfert in the 3rd round of the 2009 draft, 34th overall.
Olfert is a defenceman who had 18 points in 32 games with the Moose Jaw U18 AA Warriors last season. He put up 16 points in 26 games with the U15 AA Broncos in 2023-24.
The Klippers nabbed another southwest product in Swift Current's Jaxson Squires in the 4th round of the 2009 draft, 41st overall.
Squires had 22 points in 32 games with the Swift Current U18 AA Broncos last season. He added 2 points in 5 games with the U18 AAA Home Hardware Legionnaires.
Kindersley also nabbed skilled Lucky Lake product Jake Hargrave in the 5th round of the 2009 draft, 51st overall.
Hargrave is a draft pick of the WHL's Kelowna Rockets and had a very impressive 40 points in 42 U18 AAA games with the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaries last season.
The final local pick was Swift Current's Ryder Leshures to Melville in the 5th round, 56th overall.
The steady defenceman had 10 points in 32 games with the Swift Current U18 AA Broncos, while adding an assist in 4 games of U18 AAA action for the Legionnaires.
