Cochrane’s biggest party of the year is back. The 2025 Canada Day Celebration hits Mitford Park on Tuesday, July 1 with a full lineup of activities, entertainment and community spirit.
The celebration kicks off at noon with kid-friendly activities, including pony rides, face painting, Gaga ball and the ever-popular Messy Moose craft tent.
Erika Richards, president of the Cochrane and Area Events Society says one of this year’s exciting additions is the Fit Set Ninja course. “Little ninjas are going to love it. It’s a obstacle course training area that builds confidence and keeps them moving.”
Paws Fur Fun dog trick shows will entertain with performances at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., along with roving shows throughout the park. “She’s even bringing astroturf for a massive dog obstacle course,” Richards shares.
Butterfield Acres will return with a farm corral and Bar JO Ranch will offer pony rides. There’s also inflatable hockey, curling and plenty of interactive fun being planned.
As the day winds down, the music ramps up. The entertainment stage will feature Cochrane favourites like Turner Bates, Cochrane Sings and Smoking Aces.
Headliner Faber Drive will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.
“I raised my teenagers in the early 2000s, so I know Faber Drive well. I’m thrilled,” Richards laughs.
The night will cap off with fireworks at 10:45 p.m., weather and fire conditions permitting. “We do have a Plan B if needed, using pyrotechnics,” explains Richards. “We always put safety first.”
Food trucks will be parked and ready to serve from lunch through the evening. “We've got some great new ones this year. From tacos to donuts to donairs, there’s something for everyone.”

There’s no parking near Mitford Park, and CAES is asking everyone to use shuttles, bikes or scooters to avoid traffic headaches.
“Seriously, there is no parking,” stresses Richards.
“The shuttles are easy, and some are even stroller and wheelchair-friendly.”
For those who need it, limited handicap parking and a monitored drop-off zone will be available near the skate park.
Of course, all entertainment and activities are free. “We’d never put a price on community,” Richards says. “This is about coming together, celebrating and having fun.”
Volunteers are still needed to help make the day a success. “Even just a couple of hours makes a difference, we’ll feed you and even give you a T-shirt.”
