Cochrane RCMP took part in a major Alberta-wide operation that led to several arrests, multiple drug seizures, and the recovery of stolen property and firearms.

On May 1 members of the Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) teamed up with Alberta RCMP’s Community Response Team and the Calgary Police Tactical Unit to arrest two Calgary residents. Following those arrests, police executed three search warrants that uncovered a significant quantity of illegal drugs and other items, including 271 grams of fentanyl, 20 grams of methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, a prohibited firearm, and nearly $7,000 in counterfeit currency.

“These specialized units are unique to the Alberta RCMP and are ready to deploy to your community at any time, addressing and preventing crime,” said Staff Sergeant Luke Halvorson with the RCMP’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Branch.

Cochrane’s involvement was one of several notable operations carried out by Alberta RCMP CRT and CRU teams in recent weeks, which resulted in the recovery of dozens of stolen vehicles and firearms, and the dismantling of several drug trafficking operations in communities including Stony Plain, Grande Prairie, Westlock and Calgary.

“These provincial resources are at work keeping Albertans safe across the province,” added Halvorson.
