YMCA Calgary has officially withdrawn from the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to manage Cochrane’s recreation facilities, citing a lack of alignment in vision, timing, and trust.
After engaging in months of discussions with the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County, the organization announced it was stepping away from the bid to potentially manage the SLS Centre, following increasing public concern over a change in facility leadership.
"Successful partnerships require a shared vision, timing, and trust," said YMCA Calgary President and CEO Shannon Doram. "At this stage, it’s clear the community is not ready for a change in management."
YMCA Calgary had been invited by the facility’s owners to submit a proposal and says it approached the process with respect for the municipalities involved and the community’s voice. However, as resistance to the potential takeover grew during public engagement, the organization opted to walk away.

Doram expressed gratitude to those involved in the process and praised the current operators of the SLS Centre.
“We have immense appreciation for the individuals and groups who have contributed to its success and care deeply about its future,” she said.
While the YMCA will not move forward with operating the Cochrane facility, Doram emphasized the organization’s continued commitment to serving residents in Cochrane and Rocky View County through other programs and partnerships.
