A 31-year-old woman from the James Smith Cree Nation has been charged after more than 600 grams of illicit drugs were seized by Melfort RCMP.
On Thursday morning (June 12) at around 8:30 am, while conducting a traffic stop at the James Smith Cree Nation, officers could see drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle.
Following an investigation, officers located and seized approximately 300 grams of cocaine, approximately 175 gram of crack cocaine, approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 70 grams of cannabis, as well as a large sum of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
As a result, Gerilyn Burns from James Smith Cree Nation has been charged with:
- three counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code
- one count, possession for the purpose of distributing, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act.
Burns appeared in Melfort Provincial Court today.
