The Weyburn Beavers came up short in their weekend swing through Regina and Saskatoon, falling in all three games to drop to 4-10 on the season.
The weekend started with a slugfest against the Regina Red Sox, where the Beavers pounded out 15 hits but couldn’t hold off the Red Sox in a 14–9 loss. Weyburn jumped out to an early lead, but Regina responded with a five-run third inning and kept the bats hot throughout the night. Relief pitching proved costly for the Beavers, with Weyburn giving up 14 runs on 17 hits. Noah Brooks had a three-hit, two-RBI night, while Ian Heck belted his second home run of the season. Luke Malzewski also went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
The Beavers continued their road trip against the Saskatoon Berries, and although the offence remained productive with 12 hits, the defence struggled again in a 12–5 defeat. Brooks had another strong performance, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Brayden Mayencourt also went deep and added a double. But Saskatoon capitalized on Weyburn errors and wild pitches, breaking open the game with a four-run fourth and another four-run seventh. Weyburn starter Dylan Parton was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs, though only three were earned, over four innings.
The weekend wrapped up with another tough game in Saskatoon, where the Beavers dropped a 13–4 decision. Mayencourt had two hits, including an RBI double, and Brooks added another RBI. The Beavers briefly led after a four-run third inning, but the Berries stormed back with 11 runs over the next four frames. Starter Gram Middleton was charged with five runs over 3 1/3 innings, while the bullpen again struggled to contain Saskatoon’s relentless offence.
The Beavers now return to Tom Laing Park on Tuesday night, when they host the Energy City Cactus Rats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
