Saskatchewan RCMP say there will be an increased police presence on the rivers in the Battlefords area this week as part of the ongoing investigation into the 2018 disappearance of Ashley Morin.

Officers from the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team, Historical Case Unit, Search and Rescue, and the Battlefords Detachment are conducting targeted searches of the river and surrounding banks.

Morin, who was 31 years old when she disappeared, was last seen in mid-July 2018 in North Battleford. Her last known contact with family was on July 10 of that year.

“Since Ashley disappeared nearly seven years ago, investigators have continuously followed up on numerous leads,” said Supt. Josh Graham, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Major Crimes Branch in Saskatchewan. “Searching the river is another step in our investigation to find out what happened to Ashley and hold the person, or persons, who took Ashley away from her family accountable.”

RCMP believe Morin was the victim of a homicide. The Historical Case Unit continues to lead the investigation, with support from the Battlefords detachment.

Graham says tips from the public have been essential in keeping the case moving forward.

“The Battlefords is a small, tight-knit community,” he said. “We know people have information about Ashley’s disappearance, and we want to encourage them to report it to police – even the smallest detail could make a difference.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 310-RCMP or their local detachment. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at saskcrimestoppers.com.
