Drivers in Cochrane should prepare for another round of traffic adjustments as major construction continues at the Highway 1A and 22 interchange.

According to a Town of Cochrane update, Alberta Transportation is implementing new traffic patterns starting the week of June 20, 2025.

“We know this project has made it harder to get around, especially for those living in Sunset,” the Town shares. “We truly appreciate your patience as the province completes this major upgrade.”

Starting around June 20, northbound Highway 22 will shift onto new lanes up to Sunset Boulevard, covering approximately one kilometre.

At Sunset Boulevard, the left lane will continue north on Highway 22, while the right lane will exit onto Sunset.

Beginning the week of June 23, paving will start on the existing southbound lanes of Highway 22. One lane will remain open for southbound traffic during the work.

Drivers should watch for temporary lane shifts, uneven road surfaces and possible night work.

Around June 24, the northbound traffic signal at Sunset Boulevard will be relocated. Flaggers will be on site to help direct traffic through the changes.

Another key shift will occur on eastbound Highway 1A around June 23, when vehicles will be rerouted to permanent lanes west of the interchange.

This change will also introduce a new roundabout on the west side, with a southbound ramp opening soon after to help drivers bypass the temporary roundabout.

“New changes are coming that bring us one step closer to smoother traffic in Cochrane,” the Town says.

Temporary ramps may be installed to connect new and existing roads. Drivers are urged to be cautious, as routes may change frequently.

“All dates are approximate and depend on weather and construction progress,” the Town cautions. “Expect frequent routing updates.”
