The southwest is in for a fun-filled weekend, with more than a dozen local events, from an annual kite festival to cultural celebrations and everything in between.

The first day of the Windscape Kite Festival is on Saturday, in addition to being the final day of the Long Days Nights music festival, featuring Young Friend, Dump Babes, and Johnny 2-Fingers & The Deformities.

Saturday is also this summer's first Market Square, complete with a plethora of vendors, an introduction, and a visit from members of the Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan.

The Recce Ride, Webb Fun Day, a solstice dance in Aneroid, Standard Dodge's barbecue event, and the annual Ranch Rodeo in Shaunavon are also set to take place on Saturday.

The Swift Current Stock Car Association will have an action-packed evening of racing on Saturday, as well as a round of roller derby at the InnovationPlex.

On the same day, the Stinger Strong Car Show and Sports Day will take place to help raise funds for Stewart Valley School.

Also on Saturday is a celebration at the Swift Current Museum to recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day with Lii Bufloo Metis Local #35 for some family fun.

Sunday will be the second and last day of the kite festival, in addition to the Mankota Rodeo, the repainting of the Pride Crosswalk on Central Avenue, and the Lafleche Recreation Board's summer kick-off event with a full-day lineup of activities.

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre is also set to host their Festival of Cultures in Riverside Park with cultural performances, vendors, games, and more.
