Tendering for the major upgrade to the Highway 1–Range Road 33 interchange in Springbank is anticipated in the third quarter of 2025.
This week, Rocky View County (RVC) approved a budget adjustment to reflect $21 million in funding from Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (ATEC) for the interchange. The funding aligns with progress on the Bingham Crossing development, which includes a new Costco location.
A report by Jeanette Lee, RVC’s manager of capital and engineering services, says the funding is pivotal in advancing the project.
“This increase aims to expedite construction and, upon completion, the interchange will be able to accommodate traffic projected to a 2040 horizon,” the report states.
Council also directed administration to sign a memorandum of agreement with ATEC to formalize the funding commitment.
The interchange project is now estimated to cost $80.4 million, with $55.4 million—about 70 per cent—being covered by the provincial government.
On May 20, ATEC Minister Devin Dreeshen confirmed in writing the province's commitment to fund both the interchange upgrades and required stormwater management.

Stage 2 of the project includes a new twinned bridge, tie-ins to the Stage 1 and Stage 2 roundabouts, and demolition of the existing bridge.
The detailed design has been completed, and construction will begin once the contract is awarded, aligning with the current Stage 1 work plan.
Both the County and developers are also contributing to the project costs
