Portage la Prairie residents and visitors alike were invited to enjoy lunch for a cause this week at Douglas Campbell Lodge, where a hot dog sale brings together sunshine, community spirit, and support for local seniors.
Fundraiser fuels summer fun at Douglas Campbell Lodge
Corrine Pratt, the recreation coordinator at the lodge, says the event is part of their annual efforts to improve the quality of life for the residents.
“Every year, the recreation department at Douglas Campbell Lodge does fundraisers,” notes Pratt.
“Our fundraisers help support our recreation program and help improve, move the facilities for our residents,” she adds.

Lunch with a cause
The hot dog sale was open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., but locals were encouraged to show up early. With high demand and plenty of advance orders, the organizers expected to sell out before the official end time. Pratt added that the lunch was both dine in and dine out, giving the locals the opportunity to stay or go with the hot dog lunch. The lunch they provided was not only hot dogs, but included chips, cookies and pop, at a price of $10.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to enhancing the lodge’s outdoor living areas, giving residents a more comfortable and enjoyable space to soak up the summer sun.
Events like this show how a small gathering can bring a community together with purpose. As the grill cools down and tables clear, what remains is the impact of neighbour's showing up for one another, that is something that lasts well beyond lunchtime.
