The Wainwright Stampede had chuckwagons for the first time since 1983 this weekend, but the competition was cut short due to the weather.
On Saturday night, it was windy and cool with sloppy racetrack conditions, but that didn't hinder the chuckwagon fans in Wainwright.
Kurt Bensmiller won the Alberta AG Centre Fast Time of the Night with a run of 1:06.35, which was only a fraction of a second faster than second place Chance Flad, who finished with a time of 1:06.83.
Kris Molle placed third, Cruise Bensmiller grabbed fourth, and Evan Salmond came in fifth for the night.
High River's Jason Glass came in 9th with a time of 1:08.11.
With two top five runs, Flad moved into first place in the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total of 2:11.16, which put him 48 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Molle, who had won the Wainwright Stampede in 2018 when the race was part of the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association schedule.
Rae Croteau Jr. sat third overall, witting 1.19 seconds behind Flad, with Glass and Evan Salmond rounding out the top five overall after two runs.
Going into Sunday, the inclement weather that had begun on Friday made the racetrack unsafe, which did not improve in time for Sunday night.
Due to that, the 2025 Wainwright Stampede was shortened to a two-day aggregate competition.
Flad, driving the Hall & Company Professional Chartered Accountants Outfit, along with outriders Nolan Cameron and Trey MacGillivray, won the 2025 Wainwright Stampede championship with a total time of 2:11.16.
This is Flad's first career victory on the WPCA Pro Tour.
