The Cochrane Piranhas Summer Swim Club dove into the 2025 season with energy and determination, earning a wave of medals and two second-place team finishes at early-season meets in Didsbury and Okotoks.

Their season debut came June 7 at the Didsbury Aqua Jets Invitational, where the Piranhas finished just 34 points behind the powerhouse Calgary Tritons in combined team standings.

Among the standout performers:

Girls 8 and under

  • Ellie Rauhaus won the 50m backstroke and 25m freestyle, and took silver in the 25m backstroke.

  • Camila LaPlante captured gold in the 25m backstroke, silver in the 50m backstroke, and two bronze finishes in the 25m and 50m freestyle.

Girls 9/10

  • The 10 and under freestyle relay team of Paige Dutta, Meadow MacPherson, Emilia MacGregor and Lennon Arsenault struck gold.

Girls 11/12

  • Madison MacPherson earned three gold medals (100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 100m IM) and a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

  • Cienna Van Breugel claimed gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle and silver in the 50m freestyle, improving her times significantly.

  • Brooke Kubik took gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 100m freestyle, and bronze in the 100m IM.

  • The 200m freestyle relay team of Van Breugel, MacPherson, Kubik, and Ana Broz also captured gold.

Girls 13/14

  • Luoying Shi placed first in the 100m and 50m backstroke, second in the 50m butterfly, and third in the 100m IM.

Boys 9/10

  • Grady Arsenault won gold in the 50m breaststroke and added three silvers in the 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, and 50m butterfly.

  • The 9/10 freestyle relay team of Tobias Anderson, Lucas Rauhaus, Mateo LaPlante and Grady Arsenault also claimed gold.

Boys 11/12

  • Koen Wiebach placed first in the 100m backstroke and 100m IM, and added two second-place finishes in the 100m and 50m freestyle.

Boys 13/14

  • Rylan Carnegie won the 100m IM with a 12-second personal best and placed second in the 50m breaststroke.

Boys 15-17

  • Will Wiebach took silver in the 100m IM with a 10-second time drop.

Okotoks Stingrays Invitational

Just one week later, on June 14, the Piranhas kept the momentum going at the Okotoks Stingrays Invitational, again finishing second overall.

Girls 10 and under

  • Lennon Arsenault won the 100m IM and 25m butterfly, and claimed silver in the 25m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

Girls 11/12

  • Madison MacPherson earned gold in the 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle, and placed third in the 100m butterfly.

  • Ana Broz took silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle.

  • Cienna Van Breugel won the 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 400m freestyle, and added silver in the 200m IM.

Boys 7/8

  • Lucas Rauhaus won all four of his events: 50m freestyle, 100m IM, 100m breaststroke, and 25m freestyle.

Boys 9/10

  • Grady Arsenault once again swept his events with gold in the 100m IM, 50m and 200m freestyle, and 50m backstroke.

Boys 13/14

  • Michael Peterson picked up gold in the 50m breaststroke and three silvers in the 100m IM, 50m freestyle and 400m freestyle.

Boys 15-17

  • Isaac Thibodeau won the 100m backstroke and 200m IM, earned silver in the 100m breaststroke, and claimed bronze in the 400m freestyle with an 8-second personal best.

  • Eason Zhang secured gold in both the 200m and 400m freestyle and took silver in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

The Piranhas host their home meet in Cochrane on July 5.
