Siblings Meghana and Milan Jacobs won over both the judges and the crowd to top the youth music talent contest at Sunday’s Treble Trouble event.
They chose to perform the Bryan Adams classic Summer of ’69, with Meghana on keytar and backup vocals, and Milan on lead vocals and guitar.
Over the last few weeks, the pair developed a slightly altered version of the song for their performance in front of a packed house at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre.
“I feel like it’s a great song for both the keys and guitar to kind of shine, and it’s such a popular song that everyone knows, so it kind of gets the crowd going a little bit,” said Milan.
Meghana said they were grateful for the chance to perform and praised the other participants.
“There are so many talented musicians here, and we didn’t expect to win. In my opinion, everyone deserved first place.”

Nine other acts also took to the stage. Nina Balac placed second, while the rock band Felina and vocalist Summer Hull tied for third.
Cash prizes of $250, $100, and $50 were awarded to the top three.
A judging panel made up of music professionals Lee Anne DeCoteau, Patrick Zelinski, and Steve Bridgett offered valuable feedback to the young performers as they pursue their musical aspirations.

Acclaimed vocalist Jacklyn Sparrow emceed the event and also took the stage herself. While the judges deliberated, she led a spontaneous conga line from the crowd to the dance floor, performing a medley of disco-era hits.
Treble Trouble was presented by Cochrane drum tutor Edward Allen as a creative collaboration to support youth musical development. The event also featured a drum recital and an open jam session.
