The Lacombe Police Service is alerting the community to a recent increase in bicycle thefts across the city.

Officers have responded to a significant rise in reports of stolen bicycles over the past few weeks.

Police say bicycle thefts are often crimes of opportunity, and they are encouraging all bike owners to take proactive steps to help reduce the risk.

Simple measures — such as using a high-quality lock and securing bicycles when unattended — can significantly deter thieves.

Lacombe police also recommend that residents document their bicycles by taking photographs and recording the serial number. In the event a bicycle is stolen, this information can help police identify and return recovered property.

Anyone who is missing a bicycle is encouraged to contact the Lacombe Police Service and provide a description, serial number or any identifying features.

The service remains committed to community safety and urges residents to report any suspicious activity or thefts as soon as possible.

Anyone with information related to bicycle thefts or other criminal activity in the area is asked to contact the Lacombe Police Service at 403-782-3279.

To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

With information from Lacombe Police Service.
