Jacqueline (Jackie) Anne Stephanson (Speck) – July 1, 1948 – June 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Jackie Stephanson announce her passing on June 14, 2025, at the age of 76 years old.

Jackie was born July 1, 1948, in Vanguard, Saskatchewan, to Esther and Henry Speck joining the family, being the youngest to four siblings. Mom was predeceased by her mother and father, Henry & Esther Speck, her siblings, Faye, Eileen, Carol, and Henry (Spike), father in-law and mother in-law, Robert (Rusty) and Velma Stephanson.

Jackie is lovingly remembered by her husband Ken and their children, Russ (Melanie), Ryan and Kara (Mike) her grandchildren Tyler & Nevan, sisters-in-law Mardell and Jewel and many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by close friends Clint & Georgie Schryver, Rod & Shirley Munro, Francis & Merna Kyle, Nadia Smith.

After spending time on the family farm in the Pambrun area and graduating, she spent time in Edmonton working at various jobs including being a nanny. Returning to the Swift Current area in 1967, she and dad were reacquainted at the Frontier Days Fair after a chance meeting. They began seeing each other soon after and were married in April of 1968. They started their family in 1969 welcoming Russell, Ryan in 1971 and eventually in 1980 welcoming their daughter Kara.

In her younger years, she was involved in sports like curling and baseball, driving to the boy’s hockey, attending gymnastics recitals, and coaching teams where she showed us what sportsmanship was like. Mom had a special talent in baseball and under her watchful eye many a young player learned how to run the bases. She went as far as to loan a player to another team which allowed them to win the tournament.

Mom had many jobs in her life, culminating in a career at Len’s Plumbing. After working at Len’s for a short time she then attended the Kelsey Institute (in 1985) becoming an apprentice plumber and then continuing at Len’s for over 30 years. The amount of knowledge that mom retained and could relay over the years was amazing, she knew names, numbers and parts, all held in the vault of her mind just waiting to be recalled. When she retired in 2017, she was gifted with a trip of her choice. Mom and Dad ventured out to the East Coast with their close friends Clint & Georgie, although she hated flying, she braved it and had a wonderful memorable trip.

Mom was a caregiver and a no nonsense person, always putting others before herself selflessly, if you were invited to her home you were immediately welcomed, fed and cared for, many of mom and dad’s friends and many friends of their children always recall the caring nature of mom, wise advise and a joke at their expense which was a sign of her true

endearment towards them. She loved animals and in particular we fondly remember her dog, Pepper. He was her constant companion through many years and many trips.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed helping with her grandson’s, being a chauffeur to and from school, a driver trainer for Tyler, and helping deliver newspapers with Nevan. She did not really slow down after retirement, always baking and creating beautiful needlework and sewn items for family members and friends. But her most enjoyable peace was her backyard and her flower beds where she tended to the many flowers including her prized Tiger Lillie’s and Clematis. Mom had a green thumb, and you often found her barefoot digging in the dirt planting, weeding, and watering away.

As per her wishes there will be no service.

In her memory, please donate to the Swift Current SPCA or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
