The Estevan Golden Eels had a successful and challenging weekend competing in back-to-back swim meets in Swift Current and Regina.
At the Swift Current meet, despite rainy weather, the team delivered strong performances across multiple events. Highlights included:
-
Adalyn Christopherson won first place in the Girls 13-14 Meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:24.62 and second place in the 100 Meter Free Relay.
-
Zalia Carlson placed second in the Girls 7-8 25 Meter Free and third in the 50 Meter Free.
-
Shyra Carlson earned third place in the Girls 9-10 25 Meter Breaststroke.
Team president Scott Walton noted the excitement of seeing many swimmers from the club’s mini program compete for the first time. “It was incredibly rewarding for not just the coaches and parents, but for the whole club. The future looks very bright for our club,” he said.
The following day, the Eels traveled to Regina to compete against a field of approximately 250 swimmers. The team continued their strong showing, with numerous top finishes, including:
-
Mahlyn Bomberak securing third place in the Girls 11 & Over 100 Meter Breaststroke.
-
Kyrie Brignall earning second place in the Girls 10 & Under 50 Meter Backstroke and second in the 100 Meter Free Relay.
-
Thea Christopherson winning first place in the Girls 10 & Under 25 Meter Butterfly.
-
Olivia Walton taking first place in the 50 Meter Backstroke, second in the 100 Meter Backstroke, second in the 100 Meter IM, and third in the 100 Meter Free.
The weekend tested the swimmers’ physical and mental endurance, especially with the quick turnaround between meets. “Competitive swimming is one of the most unforgiving sports,” Walton said. “There is no hiding in the pool. Performance is a direct reflection of preparation, choices, and determination.”
Despite the weather and the demanding schedule, the Estevan Golden Eels showed resilience and skill, earning many ribbons and medals along the way.
They are back in the water this weekend with a meet in Oxbow.
