What’s happening this Canada Day in Central Alberta.

Communities across the region are gearing up for Canada Day celebrations filled with fireworks, food, music, and family-friendly fun from June 30 to July 1.

Here’s a look at what’s planned in several Central Alberta communities:

Innisfail

Canada Day Kick-Off
June 30, 5:30 p.m. | Napoleon Sports Field
Celebrate early with live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and fireworks at 11 p.m.

Family activities (5:30–9:30 p.m.) include:

  • Inflatable obstacle course and bouncy castle
  • Face painting (5:30–7:30 p.m.)
  • Yard games with the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame
  • Balloon animals by Kyle Key the Magician (6:30–7:30 p.m.)

Live Performances:

  • 5:30 p.m. – Joy’s School of Dance
  • 6:10 p.m. – Macleod of Lewis
  • 6:45 p.m. – O Canada & Dignitary speeches
  • 7:00 p.m. – Polka Dots
  • 8:00 p.m. – Kyle Key the Magician
  • 9:10 p.m. – The Sour Patch Men
  • 10:15 p.m. – Cole Malone

Ponoka

Fireworks at the Stampede Grounds
June 30, around 11 p.m.
Head to the Ponoka Stampede grounds for an evening fireworks show to kick off the holiday.

Lacombe

Canada Day at Various Locations
July 1

  • 11:00 a.m. – Community concert band at the Legion
  • 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. – Colour march and flag-raising ceremony (LMC to Legion)
  • 12:00 p.m. – BBQ at Byron Graff Memorial Hall
  • 1:00 p.m. – Lakers' Music at Byron Graff Memorial Hall
  • 4:00–7:00 p.m. – Community market at Lacombe Junior High (food trucks, games, face painting)
  • 8:30 p.m. – Free concert by Alecia Aichelle and Tap9 at Cranna Lake
  • Dusk – Fireworks at Cranna Lake (parking at Gary Moe Sportsplex)

Red Deer

Canada Day at Great Chief Park (Bower Ponds)
July 1
Enjoy multicultural entertainment, food booths, kids’ activities, and fireworks at 11 p.m. Free transit available from Sorensen Station.

Penhold

Canada Day Celebration
July 1 | Lincoln Street Recreation Area
A full day of entertainment and family activities, starting with breakfast.

  • 8:30–10:30 a.m. – Penhold Youth Club Pancake Breakfast ($7 for adults, $3 for kids under 5)
  • 9:30–11:30 a.m. – Free games and crafts by the splash park
  • The infamous cotton candy for sale from the Penhold & District Optimist Club

Sylvan Lake

Canada Day at the Pier with the Sylvan Lake Rotary Club
July 1, 10 - 3 p.m.
Head to the pier for fun, face painting, balloons and fireworks at 11 p.m.

2 p.m.  - Join the March of Canadians from the Municipal Government Building to Sylvan Lake Pier, including flag raising and a performance of "O Canada" by Interactor Callee Lundy. Then march together down Main Street to the pier for birthday cake!

Blackfalds

Canada Day at Tayles Spray Park
July 1, 1–3 p.m.
Celebrate with DJ music, glitter tattoos, refreshments, and Canada Day giveaways for kids.
