The Marysburg Royals suffered a rare loss on Thursday night as the Saskatoon River Pirates staged a late rally to edge out the Royals 7-6.
Marysburg held a slim 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before the River Pirates scored a pair of runs to complete the comeback.
It was a back-and-forth game between the two squads, with Saskatoon opening with a two-run lead at the bottom of the first inning.
The Royals evened the game at two thanks to a double by Tom Hooker and a single by Joel Bauml in the top of the third inning.
Saskatoon regained the advantage with a trio of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Royals battled back to take their first lead of the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning and then another two runs in the top of the sixth inning, setting up the River Pirates late rally.
Hooker ended the night with two hits and drove in two runs. Curtis Strueby crossed home plate on three occasions.
Bauml took the loss on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing six earned runs on eight hits. He also had five strikeouts.
The Royals record drops to 9-2. They will get another shot at the River Pirates on July 15.
