Frontier Days received some help wrapping up with a star-studded performance Saturday night.
Texas-born Drake Milligan took to the grandstand to kick off the Western Canadian leg of his self-titled tour, Drake Milligan in Concert, in front of ecstatic Swift Current fans.
Hafford, Saskatchewan’s The Brothers G performed the opening set, before making way for the headliner, Milligan, who was thrilled to return to the province.
“It's great times all the way around," he said. "Every show I've had up here has been a lot of fun.”
The crowd was loving the music all night, as Milligan played hits from his Dallas/Fort-Worth album, including Goin’ Down Swingin, Long Haul, and Sounds Like Something I’d Do. The hits were also interspersed with covers of country classics from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens.
Milligan rose to fame after finishing in third place on the 2022 season of American Idol. His debut single, “Sounds Like Something I’d Do” peaked at the number 40 spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2022.
Milligan made his Grand Ole Opry debut in October 2022.
Additionally, Milligan portrayed a fictional version of rock and roll icon Elvis Presley on the Country Music Television miniseries Sun Records.
Milligan will have two additional tour dates in Western Canada. He and his band will be in Big River, Sask., on July 4th, as well as Calgary on the 5th.
