Teachers from the Chinook School Division are heading into their summer break with a new local collective bargaining agreement.

The deal will run from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2028.

"It's important that we're able to come to an agreement," said Chinook School Division Director of Education Mark Benesh. "It's a three-year agreement with some changes in language and some other pieces with it."

The deal included re-allocating some of the funds they had set aside for professional development.

"Some PD dollars that we had which often was excess and they ended up not being spent was invested in supporting some teacher technology, "Benesh said. "It was a nice partnership."

The deal also includes a raise for teacher coaches.

This is different from the provincial collective bargaining agreement over teacher compensation. It deals with substitute pay, benefits packages, professional development, and other local details.
