The Saskatchewan Roughriders are the only team in the Canadian Football League (CFL) sitting at 4-0 following the first four weeks following a 37-18 win over the BC Lions.
AJ Ouellette led the green and white with 139 rushing yards on the ground and added a touchdown.
It was a battle between the backup quarterbacks on Saturday. Saskatchewan’s Jake Maier earned the win by tossing 170 passing yards with a touchdown and didn’t throw an interception.
On the other side, BC’s Jeremiah Masoli threw three interceptions, including one that was returned by Tevaughn Campbell for an 89-yard touchdown in the final play of the first half.
The Lions were poised to take the lead at the end of the half as they were trailing 9-7. Prior to the Campbell touchdown, the Lions Justin McInnis hauled in a touchdown reception, but the play was called back due to a Lions offside penalty.
In total, the Riders defence forced four interceptions, with Chase Brice tossing one after he came in relief of Masoli late in the fourth quarter.
Dhel Duncan-Busby hauled in a 42-yard pass from Maier late in the game.
James Butler was the star of the Lions offence, with 132 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (3-0) are the only other team undefeated team in the CFL
Saskatchewan will enter their first bye week of the season and hope to have starter Trevor Harris back under centre for the next game on Friday, July 11 against the Calgary Stampeders.
