Estevan Fire Rescue detailed some of the fire calls they went out to over the final week of June.
On June 25, at around 10:06 a.m., crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. After responding, they found that no emergency was occurring, with the alarm attributed to ongoing cleaning.
The next day saw crews were dispatched to deal with a noxious odor in the northeast area of the city around 2:05 p.m. Numerous calls were received about the odor, which crews determined was caused by venting from a chemical being offloaded at a commercial property, with wind carrying the smell into the area. EFR found that no emergency was occurring, and the odor dissipated once the offloading was completed.
Later that afternoon at 3:09 p.m., crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northwest area of the city. Crews responded and found that no emergency was occurring, likely having gone off due to machinery operation.
Finishing up their calls for the week, June 28 had crews dispatched to a possible transformer fire in the North central part of the city at 10:05 a.m. Crews secured the area and found that the issue was caused by wildlife on powerlines. SaskPower was dispatched to the location to further investigate.
The week held more than just calls for the EFR, as they were at the Sacred Heart School Track Day on June 26, providing a spray down for the kids. Later that day, they attended the Touch a Truck event hosted at the Estevan Early Years Resource Centre.
