The City of Swift Current helped celebrate Canada Day in a unique way.

Canada Together was a free event put on by the city at Memorial Park to celebrate Canada’s 158th birthday, complete with a barbecue, cupcakes, and live entertainment.

Partnerships and Events Coordinator with the City of Swift Current, Brad Woods was happy to see the community come together to celebrate.

“We had a really nice crowd,” says Woods. “Probably 700 to 750 people, so really pleased with it.”

Attendees were also encouraged to contribute to a large poster by drawing a picture or sharing their thoughts on what being Canadian means to them.

Additionally, the Canadian flag was raised by the Aracena Family, a family of newcomers from the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, who shared the celebration with attendees.

“We’re so thankful that we’re here in Canada. It’s a paradise for us,” says father Bejie Aracena.

The City of Swift Current hopes to continue this event in the future.
