The new NCAA eligibility rules have cost the Swift Current Broncos a significant asset again.

After losing captain Clarke Caswell to the University of Denver earlier this off season, forward Rylan Gould has decided to head to school early.

The veteran had committed to play for Michigan Tech in 2026-27 so Swift Current had traded him to Everett for a 2026 1st round WHL Prospect Draft pick.

Gould has instead opted to head to the NCAA this fall.

His choice forced the cancellation of that deal, and the Silvertips get the draft pick back.

"We wish Rylan all the best in his next chapter both on and off the ice," the Broncos said in a statement on social media.

The Gould trade also involved the Silvertips sending southwest Saskatchewan product Kasey Gleim to Swift Current.

The teams quickly re-worked the deal with Gleim coming to Swift Current, while the Broncos traded their 2nd round CHL Import Draft Pick, 89th overall, to Everett for their 2nd round pick, 122nd overall.

Gleim had 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 games with the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League last season.

A number of WHL teams have lost veteran players this off season thanks to new NCAA rules that make CHL players eligible to play for American universities.
